Move Mealime Recipes into RecipeScan

Copy a link, a screenshot, or the text. These steps work if Mealime still opens, and if you are cooking from a copy you already saved.

We make RecipeScan. On the App Store the name is RecipeScan: Save Any Recipe. The short version of this page is Moving from Mealime.

Mealime is discontinued as of 21 October 2026. Its closing page does not mention an export, and it says personal data was deleted when the app shut down. Published recipes were meant to continue on Meals Hub. This page is only the move. What happens to the account, with sources, is in what happens to a Mealime account.

What you can and cannot move

There is no button that downloads a Mealime account into RecipeScan. RecipeScan does not sign in to Mealime. What you can move is a copy of the recipe:

  • A recipe website link. Mealime publishes recipes on mealime.com, usually under mealime.com/recipes/. Paste that address. Do not paste a link to a meal plan or a grocery list.
  • A photo or screenshot of the ingredients and the method, including a note you added. One image at a time.
  • The text, pasted from the recipe page or from Notes.

A Mealime meal plan does not come with those copies. Mealime says saved plans are personal data, and personal data was deleted when the app shut down. Preferences and settings have to be set up again in Meals Hub. The closing page does not say your edits are copied there.

If what you wanted was Mealime’s own recipes and its weekly plans, start with Meals Hub. It is the continuation Mealime names, inside the Albertsons grocery apps and on the web. This guide is for people who want those recipes in the same place as recipes from websites, cookbooks, and social posts. The short page, with that choice before the taps, is Moving from Mealime.

Step 1: Start from a short list, or from copies you already have

If Mealime still opens, the recipes you actually cook are the ones worth the time. The catalogue is not.

  1. Open Favorites, then the current meal plan.
  2. Write down the recipes you have made more than once. For most people that is a short list, not every recipe the app ever showed.
  3. Next to each title, write changes that exist only in your account: a swapped ingredient, a note, a different serving size. Those edits are not on the public recipe page.

If Mealime does not open, skip the list inside the app. Start from links, screenshots, or text you already saved, or from a public mealime.com recipe page if that page still loads.

Step 2: Save a link, a screenshot, or the text

A recipe link

Mealime’s own iOS help says to open the recipe from the meal plan, Favorites, or a builder preview, tap More, then tap the share icon. That article was last updated on 29 July 2019, and the shutdown guide could not capture the live Mealime screen. If the control has moved, use whatever share control is on the open recipe.

  1. Open one recipe from your list.
  2. Tap More, then the share icon.
  3. On the iPhone share sheet, tap Copy.
  4. Paste the address into Notes and open it in Safari. You want the recipe itself, usually a mealime.com/recipes/ page. If Copy gave you something else, search the recipe title on mealime.com and copy the address of the matching recipe page.
  5. Repeat for the rest of the list. Keep one address per line.

A paper copy is the backup when a link will not open. Mealime’s print help says printing is not available in the iOS or Android app. Log in on the web, open the recipe, and use the printer icon under the instructions. Save a PDF. You can photograph that PDF later. The help article was last updated on 20 February 2018.

A screenshot of your own version

Use this when you changed the recipe. The public page will not have your note.

  1. Open the recipe so the ingredients and your note are on screen.
  2. Take a screenshot. If the method runs past one screen, scroll and take a second one. RecipeScan reads one image at a time, so you will add the rest by editing.

The text

On the recipe web page, select the ingredients and the method and copy them. From a screenshot, long-press the text in Photos (Live Text) and copy that. Keep the words in Notes if you are not importing them in the same sitting.

Step 3: Import that copy into RecipeScan

On the App Store the name is RecipeScan: Save Any Recipe. Use Paste a link for each recipe address, one at a time. A screenshot uses Scan a recipe, then Photos. Copied words use Paste text.

Paste a link

  1. Open RecipeScan and go to My Recipes.
  2. Tap Add recipe.
  3. Choose Paste a link and paste one address. Repeat for each recipe on your list.

The shutdown guide says this import saves the title, ingredients with quantities, steps, times, and photo, and skips a recipe you already have. Check that against the Mealime page. A link import is Mealime’s published recipe, not your notes.

You can also share a link or a screenshot into RecipeScan from the iPhone share sheet. For a Mealime page, Paste a link is the path on this page.

Scan a screenshot

  1. Go to My Recipes, tap Add recipe, choose Scan a recipe, then Photos.
  2. Pick the screenshot of the ingredients and method, not a photo of the finished plate. A photo of a plated dish is a different feature: it asks the app to write a recipe from the picture. Your Mealime screenshot already has the words.
  3. Read the draft. Add any steps that were on the next screen by editing the recipe.

The same Photos path is how a photo of a printed PDF gets in. You can also scan a cookbook page with the camera. Social-video imports are a separate path, and they are Premium.

Paste the text

  1. Go to My Recipes, tap Add recipe, and choose Paste text.
  2. Paste the ingredients and the method together. RecipeScan separates them. Check the quantities after.

The homepage also lists a Paprika, JSON, or CSV file import. Mealime’s closing page does not offer a file, so that path does not move a Mealime account. Use it only if you already have a file from somewhere else.

Step 4: Check the recipe, then plan and shop

Check each recipe after it lands. Quantities, units, and oven temperatures are where an import goes wrong. The servings control rescales a saved recipe from ½× to 3×.

Then rebuild the week yourself. Put recipes on the weekly planner and build a grocery list from them. The list can skip what your pantry already has. Premium can auto-fill a week. That fill is not Mealime’s curated menu, and this import does not restore the plan you had in Mealime.

Cooking Mode, with big-text steps and timers, is what you use once the recipe is saved. Voice control is Premium.

What the free plan covers

The free plan keeps up to 3 recipes of your own. A recipe link counts toward those 3. Scans and AI features are Premium: $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year, with a free trial for eligible new subscribers. The recipe catalogue is 1,600+.

What RecipeScan will not do

  • Sign in to Mealime, or download the account.
  • Hand you Mealime’s done-for-you weekly menu. Meals Hub is the closer match for that.
  • Run on Android. RecipeScan is iPhone and iPad and requires iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 or later.

Frequently asked questions

Can RecipeScan pull my Mealime account across?

No. RecipeScan does not sign in to Mealime. Mealime’s closing page does not mention an export. You move a link, a screenshot, or text you copied yourself.

Which import should I use?

A mealime.com recipe link is the cleanest copy of Mealime’s published recipe. Use a screenshot or pasted text when you changed the recipe, or when you do not have a working link. Paste a link handles one address at a time. Scan a recipe, then Photos, handles one screenshot.

Are link imports and scans free?

The free plan keeps up to 3 recipes of your own. A recipe link counts toward those 3. Scans and AI features are Premium: $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year, with a free trial for eligible new subscribers.

What if Mealime will not open?

Use a link, screenshot, or text you already saved, or a public mealime.com recipe page if it still loads. Mealime said its published recipes continue on Meals Hub. It did not promise that every public recipe page stays up, and personal data that you did not copy was deleted when the app shut down.

Is this the same kind of meal plan as Mealime?

No. RecipeScan plans from recipes you choose, and Premium can auto-fill a week. It does not hand you Mealime’s curated weekly menu. For that, Mealime points people to Meals Hub. RecipeScan is iPhone and iPad only.

Sources, checked 12 October 2026 for RecipeScan and 9 October 2026 for Mealime: the RecipeScan homepage (website links, pasted text, cookbook and screenshot scans, the share sheet, and Paprika, JSON, or CSV files) and the Mealime shutdown guide, which cites Mealime’s closing page, share help last updated 29 July 2019, and print help last updated 20 February 2018. This page did not re-test the Mealime app.
